Jurgen Klopp says coming back to lead Liverpool is conceivable.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, indicated that returning someday remains a possibility. Klopp, following a hugely successful near-decade reign featuring continental glory and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, now holds positions overseeing worldwide football within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the league title last season, but many fans holding him in high esteem would embrace the idea that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he shared with his interviewer: “I declared I won't manage any other side within the country. Therefore in case it's my former club...yes. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, which suggests I might decide down the line, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding the specific conditions would have to unfold to bring him back to the dugout, he revealed he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; I don’t miss going to media briefings repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews a week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, however, dining out with the team having a nice chat, is pleasant. We won a lot of games so there was often a very good mood in the building. Remaining with me is Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise for his successor, crediting him for the tweaks that won the league last term. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in every contest after a summer spending spree, though he denied the suggestion of it representing the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words if you use the wrong words. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, incredible player. This is a well-built well-judged squad. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Jota, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, along with the consequences at the club. Jota was killed in a vehicle collision alongside his brother recently.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding the player himself, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the dressing room missing him. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A profound tragedy for the entire squad as well. Not a single person would cite it as an excuse yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Handling this on a personal level is challenging. Overwhelming.”
