Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Initiating Derogatory Chants About Manager Wilder

Patrick Bamford has joined Sheffield United only half a year following instigating disrespectful chants targeting the team's coach, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has agreed to a deal with the second-tier club in difficulty until January. Bamford's seven-year time with Leeds was ended amicably in August.

Among Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player involved leading offensive songs about Wilder amid Leeds' promotion party this spring. Now, the former England player will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to lift the team he loves out of the bottom places.

Previous History Between the Striker and Wilder

The pair had previous conflict before Leeds won promotion back to the top flight the previous campaign and United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as a "muppet" back when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won direct promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the playoffs.

Reconciliation & Moving Forward

All seems has been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost up front and Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his playing days.

The song about Wilder gained traction this spring. A repentant Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, called Wilder the following day.

Chris Wilder stated back then: “Had a conversation with Pat recently and I’ve no issue whatsoever with it. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and admired him calling me.

“We spent a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke too and had a longer discussion together and he is a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we would give it and accept it and that is part and parcel of the game across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I told him that to Patrick.”

Recent Playing Struggles

The forward featured in 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the former Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro striker has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
